Addressing Client’s Drug and Alcohol Involvement
The Board is looking for instances or patterns of drug or alcohol involvement in the criminal history. Drug and alcohol offenses or involvement in the offense summary constitute the majority of the offender population. Mr. Hampel receives copies of the Parole Board’s official offense summaries. He argues for his drug or alcohol clients by showing the parole board the certificates of the recovery and rehabilitation programs that the client has attended in prison. These programs include state, chaplaincy and correspondence programs. Furthermore, Paul Hampel uses his information from the on unit interview with the client and the written exercises he has his client’s write to show that his client will stay clean and sober in the future. Finally, Mr. Hampel uses letters from sponsors and support to achieve the fastest possible release by establishing the client’s commitment towards recovery will continue after release. This information combined makes a powerful argument that can greatly shorten the time a substance/alcohol abuse offender spends in the prison system.
